Swing Aerial

The swing aerial is exactly what it’s name is. An aerial that is swung into. It’s also very commonly referred to as “axe to aerial” or ”axe aerial”, but today it is rarely being entered from an axe kick, so swing aerial is more correct.

01 Aerial

The only progression that you’re going to need is an aerial. The better your aerial is the easier it will be to swing into it. If you can do it from standing, that’s even better.

02 Swing Aerial

The only hard part about the swing aerial is the loss of height due to the lack of blocked momentum (if done from standing). To fix that, try to enter the swing aerial with a small hop and that will give you way more height. You enter it in a similar way, as you would enter a swing webster (axe webster). Try to swing your backleg from the front all they way to the back and up. The higher you’re able to swing that leg up, the less distance it has to travel to land again. Being more flexible will help in this regard. Spot the ground throughout the whole trick and drive that landing foot right into that spot.

Tips
Try not to jump too early. Drop your upper body and raise your backleg as high as possible before you leave the ground. If you jump too early, it’s going to be very hard to come around completely.

You can punch back with your leading hand to give you some additional lift, as I’m doing in the gif.

It does not matter what type of aerial you prefer (gymnast or tricker style).
