Backside 900

Backside 900

Prerequisites

Tornado Kick
The Backside 900 is a 540 degree spin from backside that ends with a round kick. It’s basically a Pop Tornado that starts with your back facing the direction of momentum instead of your front. This adds about 180 degrees of additional rotation to the Pop Tornado’s 360 degrees, to hit the same target.

Being able to perform a B-Twist Round can be very helpful, as they are both almost the same trick.

01 Spin 360 degrees

Start off with a 360 degree spin from standing. If you can already do a Backside 720, this should be easy.

02 Spin 540 degrees

Next up you'll need to add a quarter rotation, so you'll face your target if you jumped from a backside stance. Try to stay as upright as possible, to land steady and balanced.

03 On one foot

Now try to land only on your non-kicking leg, which is usually your hook kick leg.

04 into chamber

Try to land in a chambered position for this next step. You should face your target and your hip should point sideways, ready to fire a round kick.

05 Add the kick

Now just extend your kicking leg to complete the Backside 9. Spot your target as you takeoff and again when you kick through.

Tips

It’s ok if you lean back into the twist a bit, to get an easier round kick out, but do not lean away from the direction of momentum, because that will kill your spin and you will have a hard time to spin around.

Spot your target right as you leave the ground, then turn around fast and spot it again. This will help to direct your kick into the right direction and also keeps you as vertical as possible.

Squat down a bit before you jump off to get as much height as you can.

Wind up with your arms and then bring them close to your body for a faster spin.

Shrug both of your shoulders up as you takeoff. It gives you more lift and keeps your body more vertical.
