Reverse Aerial

Reverse Aerial

Prerequisites

Optional

Loser
Also called Aeriola (if done with a B-Kick Setup like I do in the GIF).

The Reverse Aerial is an Aerial that you enter from a backstep. So you take one step back and one Aerial forward.

01 Aerial

Now of course you should have a solid Aerial before you try this trick. The better it is, the easier it will be to learn it's variations.

02 Swing Aerial

The next progression is a Swing Aerial (also called Axe 2 Aerial). It will teach you how to swing into an Aerial, rather than stepping into one. Take a small hop and as you come down, carry that momentum with a backswing into the trick.

03 Reverse Aerial

I'm using the butterfly kick momentum steps to enter my backstep, but you can also just step back from a stationary position. There are two things you need to focus on, for the Reverse Aerial:

1. Spotting the ground, where you need to place your foot for the landing, the entire time.
2. Hitting the floor with your foot at about an 45 degree angle, to block your momentum forwards again.

If you don't focus on the ground, you flip into a Loser flip, which is cool too but not an Reverse Aerial. Focus on that spot and think hard about driving your foot there for the landing.

If you step back too far, you won't block a lot of momentum upwards and you probably won't have enough height.  It's not as problematic if your step is a little bit short, but it will decrease the amount of flip momentum you could get. So try to hit the floor at about 45 degrees.
Tips
This trick can work with both the gymnast and the tricker version of the Aerial.

Try to really block your momentum forwards again, after stepping back. If you travel to the side just a bit, it could kill the "reverse" aesthetic.

Punch back with your arm if you want to get some additional lift and flip momentum.

Keep your legs as straight as possible and try to swing the landing leg as fast as you can.
