Skip Double Round

Skip Double Round

Prerequisites

This trick is probably the easiest trick involving to roundkicks in one trick. It’s a great prerequisite for Cheat 900 Double.

While this trick is being entered with a swing do not confuse it with it’s more popular cousin the Swing 900 double. That one starts in backside and has 180 degrees more twist and this one starts in frontside, so it needs 180 degrees less twist to hit the same target.

Think of this trick just as a Roundkick that you swing / kick into.

01 Skip Hook

The basic prerequisite for this trick is a simple stepover hook / crescent (Tsunami / skip hook).

02 without kick

Now do the same but without the kick.

03 switch legs

Now hop a bit more so you can switch feet to land on the ‘kicking’ leg. You’ll land with your other knee up in a chambered position (ready to kick). This step becomes A LOT easier if you know how to spot correctly. Spot - Jump - Spin - Spot again. This will make it easier to land in a controlled manner.

04 Skip Round

Now just add the kick. Remember to spot TWICE. One before you jump and a second time when you kick through. Don’t forget about your arms too. Enter with open arms and then wrap them into you and around for the spin.

05 Straight Leg

There are at least two variations of the Skip Double Round. One where you keep the kicking leg straight all the way through (this one) or one where you kick once, rechamber and then kick again. This one here is very easy to learn as all you need to do is keep your leg straight while you do the previous step. You can just think of the first ‘roundkick’ as a swing instead of a kick and it should feel easy. Afterwards you can work on adding the kick asthetic. Doing it this way can be a bit difficult to get around all the way since keeping your leg straight will slow down your spin, so you’ll have to put more effort into that.

06 Rechambering

Technically a bit harder than the other variation but it’s easier to put more power into the kicks (or to emphasize them more). So basically you’ll want to do a standing Roundkick and then you hop and tuck the kicking leg in for the spin. Quickly turn around to kick a second time. Use your arms for a quick turnaround and your spotting to locate your target. It should feel very similar to progression 4.

Tips

Make sure you are not kicking too early. The second kick should ideally hit the same spot that the first one hit.

Do not travel too much as that will kill your spin.

Being able to do a B-Twist Round will help a lot, since the Skip Round is basically a completely upright B-Twist Round. Not a necessity but it will help.
