Cart Full

Cart Full
The Cart Full (cartwheel fulltwist) is a Fulltwist that is initiated from a tricker style Cartwheel. It’s not a backwards flipping trick, like the classic gymnast Fulltwist, but rather a sideways or even forwards flipping trick.

In essence it’s a Cartwheel_pop_Aerial Twist. (Pop means that you jump from both feet instead of one)

01 Cartwheel

You will need a strong and fast Cartwheel for this trick. You should be able to stand out and even get a little jump out of it. Bend your arms a little bit, so you can push off the ground easier as you finish the cartwheel. Also keep your legs straight.

02 Butterfly Twist

The B-Twist is the main foundation trick on which I base the Cart Full on. The Cart Full feels very similar to a Cartwheel B-Twist. Try to be at a level where you can land the Butterfly Twist pretty much consistently before you move on.

03 Aerial Twist

You don’t need a perfectly inverted Aerial Twist but it translates directly to the inversion level of your Cart Full. A true Aerial Twist is actually more of a Webster twist, that flips forward completely inverted. For Cart Full it’s sufficient to treat your Aerial Twist as an inverted B-Twist.

04 Cart_vanish_btwist

This step should be easy if you’re comfortable with your B-Twist. This transition is called vanish. You step down with your first foot out of your cartwheel and you enter your B-Twist right as you other foot comes down. So if I land with my right leg first out of a cartwheel it goes like: right lands, left lands, right takes off, left takes off. Practice this slowly first and then try to carry some momentum from your cartwheel into your B-Twist.
Note: Do not use the classic U-Shape upper body dip, that you would normally use for B-Twist, as it’s not needed here and stops your momentum from flowing.

Now all you need to do is to change that vanish transition into a pop one. Just do you Cartwheel into B-Twist combo, like in the previous progression, but jump the B-Twist from both feet. This is a little bit harder to do in a slow manner, so you’ll be having an easier time if you already learned how to carry momentum from your cartwheel into a B-Twist.
Note: Some trickers may count this already as a Cart Full.

06 Cart_vanish_atwist

To make it into a real full, you need to start adding inversion to it. Take it a step back and practice Cart_vanish_Aerial Twist. Try to do your Aerial Twist with your upper body a bit more upright, than a normal one, where you swing your upper body down low. Use your arms to gain height and then bring them in to initiate the twist.

07 Cart_pop_atwist

The final step is to pop into the Aerial Twist to turn it into a Cart Full. You can muscle out the B-Twist with almost no momentum at all, which can mitigate a bad cartwheel but for Aerial Twist it’s a lot harder to do and to still get a decent inversion level. So work on your cartwheel a lot. It should feel like you’re being catapulted into the Full. Then it should be easy to just pop into your Aerial Twist instead of vanish.

Tips

In an Aerial Twist you can get away with dropping your upper body low to the ground, before you takeoff, but you shouldn’t do that in a Cart Full. Instead you should be taking off with your upper body high and upright to get maximum height. But of course a low and whippy Cart Full is also useful. For swings and vanishes for example.

Don’t worry if you’re not completely inverted. Being just slightly inverted makes it easier to progress into Full Round or Full Hyperhook. Being completely inverted is usually easier to double.

If you want to learn how to invert fully, try learning Cart Front first, which is a Frontflip from tricker style cartwheel. Then treat your Cart Full as if it was a Cart Frontflip Twist.
